Today, we are back with one of
our most popular formats: an authentic-bag comparison.
The subject this time
is a long-standing favorite as a first Hermès bag,
the Evelyne Mini (TPM).
As always,
let’s start with proof of the authentic purchase.
Evelyne Mini in Étoupe Clemence with gold hardware
The authentic bag we bought is Étoupe,
paired with a Bleu Indigo strap.
It was purchased at the Hermès boutique in Qingdao.
Here is the front view.
Unless we tell you which is authentic,
it is practically impossible
to point to a specific feature
and say that it gives the bag away.
From the side, back and base,
the size and proportions look identical too, don’t they?
The authentic bag is on the left.
Now let’s move closer
and compare the details.
Even in close-up,
the leather grain looks the same.
We use the same Clemence leather,
so that is only natural 🙂
As we have explained before,
behind the name card you can faintly see
‘LAGUN TAURILLONS’on
the display sign, can’t you?
‘LAGUN TAURILLON’ is one of the leathers made
by Rémy Carriat,
one of the world’s finest tanneries.
Hermès refers to this leather
as Clemence.
Because it is the same leather,
it makes sense that the grain
is indistinguishable even in close-up, doesn’t it?
A small note: even with the same leather,
slight color differences can occur.
Leather is dyed, and no two hides
take the dye in a completely identical way.
Please bear in mind that even
the same named color can vary slightly.
The same is true of authentic bags.
Authentic Hermès bags
These are all the same Gold color,
yet some are lighter and others darker.
Some also have a reddish cast,
while others do not.
The next detail
is the H logo on the front.

Even the size of the perforations
is identical.
The Evelyne’s signature perforated H
is made using the same tool size as the original,
so the hole size, spacing and placement are all closely reproduced.
This precision comes from skilled handwork,
not simply a machine. Even with the same tools,
subtle differences can arise from how they are used.
We pay close attention to this detail too.

Its shape and stitching are carefully reproduced.

Lift the closure tab as shown,
and you will find the Hermès logo stamp underneath.
Here is the view from the side.
Look at the U-shaped leather piece
holding the strap hardware.
Many alternatives on the market
differ noticeably from the original here.

This is a commercially available example,
and the difference in size is immediately obvious, isn’t it?

Gold hardware On the strap clasp, there is a rectangular hallmark
that is very small. Even on authentic bags,
its position and size can vary by year and season.
(Ours is made to match the authentic example used in this comparison.)
Because our engraving is based on an actual authentic bag,
the standard of detail is noticeably different from other products on the market.

Please also look at
the Hermès logo stamp on the strap.
The authentic Evelyne Mini
underwent some small changes in 2024,
and we updated our version accordingly.
It now matches
the version being sold in boutiques.
Recent boutique releases come with an 85 cm strap,
so unless a customer requests otherwise,
we also make ours with an 85 cm strap.
The Evelyne Mini may be an entry point to Hermès,
but its fine details, practicality
and polished appearance when worn
make it a small bag with real presence,
and an important design in the Hermès collection.
